In companies but also in households, security weaknesses in IoT devices such as IP cameras, smart TVs or smart kitchen utensils can be exploited by hackers and lead to unwanted access to sensitive information. In extreme cases, the such Internet of Things (IoT) devices can even be misused.
In this common Cybinar of the Cyber-Security Council Germany e.V. and its member Guardicore you will learn more about how such a manipulation works in detail, using the example of a voice remote control that has been converted into an audio recording device.
In Guardicore’s WarezTheRemote research project a man-in-the-middle attack was used to exploit the remote’s RF communication with the set-top box and over-the-air firmware upgrades â by pushing a malicious firmware image back to the remote. The exact way how attackers could have used the remote to continuously record audio without user interaction.
Guardicore is the segmentation company disrupting the legacy firewall market. Its software-only approach is decoupled from the physical network, providing a faster alternative to firewalls. Built for the agile enterprise, Guardicore offers greater security and visibility in the cloud, data-center and endpoint. Beyond Guardicore’s security solution it has a research lab that provides research services.
We are looking forward to your participation. The cybinar is free of charge.
