No progress since 2018, Exploding costs, lack of responsibilities in the ministries
IT consolidation is the largest IT project of the Federal Government, decided in 2015, with a term of 10 years and a budget of 1 billion euros
It is about modernizing and standardizing the IT for over 200 authorities and ministries: uniform PC workstations in all authorities, consolidation of data centers, standardization of service providers, central procurement of software and hardware
So far, the project has cost about 3.5 billion euros, already 2.5 billion more than estimated
The rough concept of the Federal Government was much too abstract and not related to substantive issues.
Nevertheless, the project is no alternative, if it makes the ministries alone, it will be even more expensive
Responsibilities must be clear: The BMI must become a central project office, which coordinates everything and is authorized to give instructions to all service providers involved!
