In the current issue of the VIK Mitteilungen (2/2025), Hans-Wilhelm Dünn, President of the Cyber Security Council Germany e.V., analyzes the intensified threat landscape for industrial energy and power economy systems. Under the title “Cybersecurity in Critical Infrastructure: Urgency, Dimensions, and Debates,” the contribution highlights the necessary transformation of national security strategies in the face of increasing hybrid attacks. The publication makes it clear that the protection of energy infrastructure today represents an existential pillar for economic stability and security of supply in Germany.
In it, Dünn particularly discusses the current regulatory debates as well as the practical challenges in implementing protective measures within highly complex network structures. The text calls for a closer integration of the political framework and operational IT security in order to sustainably increase resilience against state and criminal actors. This analysis offers decision-makers valuable insights into the dimensions of modern cyber risks and the resulting requirements for critical infrastructure.
