Launch of the Sovereignty Hub of the Cyber Security Council Germany e.V.
With the successful launch of the Sovereignty Hub, we have sent a strong signal: Digital sovereignty is not a buzzword – it is a strategic necessity.
The event focused on highly topical issues surrounding the security policy, economic, and technological dimensions of digital dependencies, including:
-
Risks posed by non-sovereign IT and cloud solutions
-
Protection of critical infrastructures and digital supply chains
-
Geopolitical cyber risks and their impact on companies
-
The European cyber and technology strategy
-
Key technologies “Made in Europe”
-
Regulatory and governance-related framework conditions
Digital Sovereignty: Clarity instead of Buzzwords:
The discussions made it clear that digital sovereignty is often used in a simplified or misunderstood way. The Hub carved out central guidelines:
-
Independence does not mean autarky
-
Focus on European and trustworthy providers without categorically excluding international solutions
-
Economic efficiency does not mean the cheapest solution, but rather sustainable, secure, and resilient value creation
Voices from the Panel:
The different perspectives from the business world, operator practice, and security architecture were particularly valuable:
-
Silvio Muschter (Swissbit AG) emphasized that vulnerabilities in hardware and semiconductors often cannot be fixed retrospectively – trust therefore begins with manufacturers in a reliable legal and economic area.
-
Uwe Neumeier (Stiftung Kirchliches Rechenzentrum Südwestdeutschland) highlighted that digital sovereignty arises primarily through strategic planning and the conscious use of suitable solutions.
-
Can Kayali (ML GRUPPE) made it clear: IT security begins with people – through training, awareness, and a shared understanding of trustworthy technologies.
Thanks:
Special thanks go to the two Hub leaders Stefan Gockel (Enginsight GmbH) and Bernd Ochsmann (AERAsec Network Services and Security GmbH) for the joint moderation and for the content-related and strategic embedding of the Hub.
The intensive professional exchange continued during the subsequent networking at the CyberWiesn – a format that combines dialogue and networking in a special way.
Outlook:
The Sovereignty Hub will continue. Further events are already in the planning stage.
We look forward to new panelists, fresh perspectives, and further exchange in this format.
Digital sovereignty is created through dialogue – strategically, realistically, and responsibly.
